RODEO QUEEN REQUIREMENTS

1.    a. A contestant must not be less than 17, nor have obtained the age of 24 years before the competition; shall never have been married, nor pregnant, nor co-habituating with a male not of her family; shall waive all liability; and shall reside within 60 miles of Waupaca County, Wisconsin.

      b. All contestants must be available to participate in any type of promotions or meetings that may be called prior to the pageant, must be able to continue making appearances or promotions throughout her reign, including the Appleton Flag Day Parade and various radio talk shows and rodeos. Should she be unable to complete her reign, the 1st runner-up will assume the title.

      c. If a contestant marries or becomes pregnant during her reign, she shall forfeit her title and all the benefits, prizes and moneys derived from the pageant.  The title and benefits will go to the next runner-up.

      d. Each contestant will be required to wear western attire for all functions related to the pageant.  Hat and boots are mandatory.

2.    a. The contest will be held on September 22 at the Mid-Western Rodeo grounds in Manawa, WI with the crowning to take place that day.  The new Queen and Princess will be invited back to the Lions meeting on September 24 at Cedar Springs Golf Course in Manawa. The pageant will officially end after the crowning on September 22.  Any grievances or problems must be filed with the Rodeo Queen Committee before that time.

      b. A contestant must agree to abide by these pageant rules, with the possibility of disqualification for infractions thereof.

3.    The Mid-Western Rodeo Queen Contestants will be judged in 3 areas:

      PERSONALITY:  The ability of an individual to project one’s personality under any circumstances.  A friendly and sincere interest in people.  A knowledge of rodeo and an awareness of current events.  Each contestant will be required to give a 3-4 minute speech on themselves and “Explain why the Mid-Western Rodeo is important to the Manawa Lion’s Club.”

      APPEARANCE:  Grooming, neatness, attractiveness and photogenic qualities of the candidate.  The ability to put together a well-coordinated outfit.

      HORSEMANSHIP:  The ability of the individual to handle and ride a horse smoothly.  To be able to project western type riding with complete confidence. There will also be a written test on Rodeo Knowledge and Horsemanship.

4.    Each contestant must submit by Sept. 2, 2007, a photo suitable for print, and a written character reference from two (2) of their peers, not to include family. Example: teacher, youth leader, employer. This written reference should include information on the candidate's dependability and character and on how her qualities will be an asset if she is chosen to represent the Mid-Western Rodeo as their Queen or Princess. Authors of these references should provide their address and phone number.

5.    a. The Queen and Princess will be required to attend the MID-WESTERN RODEO and assist where directed by the Committee. Free Admission will be provided for Contestants' Father, Mother, Sisters, and Brothers ONLY.
